Formal pharmacy Informatics education is challenging for many pharmacy schools and basic concepts may not be covered at all. Surprisingly, according to the Standards of Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), of all healthcare providers should obtain competency in pharmacy informatics during their education. How can we supplement this gap in knowledge?
The Pharmacy Informatics Academy has been KNEE-DEEP in developing a short pharmacy informatics education course. As individuals that have lectured at dozens of universities, we have a fair share of experience in training pharmacy students.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for this resource. I’ve been working as the operations manager within a hospital pharmacy for the past 6 years, but am seeking to become an informatics pharmacist. I’m considering obtaining a certification. As an operations manager, I’m heavily involved within our ADM system, the development of our EHR system, and various other IT/informatic-related tasks. Do you believe this meets the eligibility requirement to sit for the CPHIMS?

Hi Patrick, thanks for connecting and great question! The course is more of a resource for pharmacists that want more pragmatic experience and perspective of informatics professionals. we would say there may be some overlap with concepts but it isn’t necessarily developed for CPHIMS or similar certifications in mind. Conversely, being CPHIMS certified is not the only way to enter the informatics profession, particularly with your current experience. Hope this helps and would love to get your feedback on the course if you do go through it!
