Where should YOU get Coronavirus Information?

While we are all mobilizing our resources to fight against coronavirus, there is another battle that is currently ensuing.  The Battle of “Misinformation”. Media coverage on coronavirus has been prolific.  And, awareness is certainly key in preparing ourselves and our loved ones.  However, there is misguided coronavirus information that is floating around as well. Thus, it is important to receive information from credible sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the World Health Organization (WHO).  There are some things that we can and cannot change about this situation.  Nonetheless, one of the things we can change is how we interrupt data, ingest information, and analyze our resources for credibility.

From an informatics side, you may ask yourself, “What else can I do to help and how can I be involved?”.

Several examples include:

  • Join the HL7 Public Health Informatics Listserv
  • Join AMIA’s Public Health Informatics workgroup

In addition, from an informatics perspective, you can take a look into CDC’s COVID-19 Informatics Resources to find the latest information on coronavirus medical codes, billing codes, HL7 data messaging resources, etc.

Stay safe, wash your hands, and stay informed.
